That 'soulful' look

Taken on the way back after the morning drive in Ranthambore, this Tiger was sheltering under a tree, avoiding the building heat of the day. He/she had been watching a small herd of Sika deer grazing, but were far enough away to warrant just a look, nothing more.

Slight clipping of the whiskers isn't a deal breaker and very hard to see whilst in the field, or through the lens, but am happy to have got the look I wanted.

Steve

Subject: Royal Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) Tiger looking back
Location: Ranthambore, India
Camera: Canon MKIII
Lens: 500f/4 - handheld from jeep
Exposure: 1/400s at f7.1. ISO 400. +0.33 stop compensation.
Crop: Square to maximise the look, more than was originally presented elsewhere
(original capture vertical)

Cheers Brad for the template. :wavey:

Steve, this is absolutely gorgeous in every way, with the look, the details, the lighting, the sharpness but perfectly shown softness of the fur. So beautiful.

Beautiful look indeed Stephen. A strong portrait with well balanced exposure despite the back-lighting. Perhaps not a deal-breaker, but I do find it a pity that the whiskers are clipped off. It looks to me as if the BLC had some very OOF blade of grass in front of the tiger, but that is a very minor nit.

Wonderfully captivating portrait Steve, those eyes really drawn one in. I also love the lighting and the way it lifts the shadows in the hairs allowing my mind to feel the textures for the fur :^)

Wonderful close up of a tiger, I like the look and amazing detail in the larger image. The cut off whiskers are not a deal breaker for me and I might not have even noticed them, way to go and well done, excellent portrait.
