I found yet another tulip image that I shot using the 600mm "canon cannon." As mentioned before, I just like the DOF effects I get with the boomer. For processing I used the NIK suite, including Dfine 02, Color Efex Pro 3.0 dark/light center + monday morning violet + classic soft focus, finished with minor selective sharpening of the main bloom off center on the right.

Larver version available, Thank you for stopping!

canon 7D
canon 600mm f4.L IS USM
F/7.1 1/40 ISO 100
tripod, wimberley head, cable, CS4, LR2, NIK suite

Nifty! DOF is about the width of my little finger...it works to highlight...yet, not so blurry to make the other shapes formless...instead, they form a nice effect of endless tulips. Nice colors for b/g too.

I like this a lot Craig. I think Ken's analysis is spot on as well. Great comp due to your dof decision. Beautiful and creative photography - even down to the framing. I'll add that the bright verticals against the tulip shapes work really well together for my tastes.

Nice....I really like the sheen on the petals. Beautifully composed and processed. I'm might consider taking the bright stem at lower right down a little just for comparison, but it's an absolute keeper as is. :toast:

As noted previously, the shallow DOF has created a pleasant, dreamy look to this. The tulips look like satin, particularly noticeable in the larger version, and the BG is beautiful. My only (very minor) issue is with the brightness of the closest stem.

Very artistic, Craig! Love the dreamy feel and color in this. I agree about burning down the stem below the main focal tulip and maybe even the brighter part of the stem on the far left tulip. Minor nits really as this is outstanding!

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. Here is a repost with the brighter stems darkened.

Craig:
I am not connecting with this one and have come back to this image several times but still can't quite pin-point the reason. Apart for the bright stem which you have burn in the repost, the focussed partial stem in the LLC is also attracting attention. The burn in the repost looks unnatural - may be its better to use recovery in ACR. The composition is interesting and you have managed to convey the soft dreamy mood.
