Four-spotted Chaser

by Andy Shepherd

Gallery: Regional: UKNPPosted May 27, 2011235 views22 comments

One from yesterday, Four-spotted Chaser drying it's wings. Not sure if the black BG will be to everyones taste, as I kinda think it looks like a studio shot, the BG is natural and is as shot.

1/60th @ f16 -1/3rd iso800 ( 95% of FF and the surrounding vegetation was plamped to give the clear black BG )

Please view large

Thanks for the feedback on my last post and thanks for looking.

There are a few more shots on my blog if anyone cares to take a look.

Andy...

Well it's the best BG to show the the "body hairs" off for sure (can't for the life of me think what they are called).

You could start a new trend Andy - tell Nial that Black is the new White!

I like it :wavey: :wavey:

Lovely detail - as good a dragonfly shot as I have ever seen, with the image sharp in every part.
The light on the wings is exquisite.

It most certainly works for me Andy. I think this is quite stunning, the lighting is outstanding and the detail exquisite. I'd be perfectly happy to hang this on the wall.

Superbly lit and those wings just leap out of the image, as does the body detail. Background is perfect for the shot I think.

Thanks for the feedback and pleased you like it :toast:

Hi Graham,

I use the Canon 300mm f4 L IS USM for all my macro shots, it gives you the perfect working distance on flighty subjects like Dragonflies and Butterflies.
