Tree Peony

Every year I try my hand at another tree peony blossom. Feel like Charlie Brown wanting to kick a football through the uprights. And Lucy says, "I'll hold...you get a good run at it!"

First, I tried this with natural colors, then sepia, then black and white. Keeping me up late, too late. Today this combo was the one that most satisfied me. I voided the center stamens...usually they are too challenging for my single exposure attempts. An incongruous blob hard to bring in balance with light, colors, and contrasts.

Zeiss 35 mm, f20, evening light with black velvet drop cloth, and longer 8-10 sec shutter. Nikon D300

Ken:
Fabulous and Sampson-like. The luscious petals are really well shown and I like the metal look on the petals. The drops add a lot to the image. The lighting looks good. I might be tempted to dim the bloom slightly to bring out a little more saturation and contrast to the brightest petals and give more room to the left rather the right (since the bloom is pointing left) - both these two suggestions are just personal preference; the image presented is good as it is.

This is gorgeous Ken. The exposure suits me perfectly. I do like Gary's idea of giving the bloom a little more room on the viewer's left, since to me that's sort of the way the bloom is facing. (analogy with avian) Droplets and overall textures are superb. Very fine...

Great presentation of a glorious portrait. I agree about maybe adding some canvas on the left side, and reducing it on the right, but just a little only. Excellent work!

I like this a lot Ken. There's nothing timid or understated about it. It think it's about as powerful as floral images can get. Great light too. :toast:

Sensational Ken. Love the detail in the flower, the water drops, the light and the black background.
