Parsley fern visitor

I don't know what kind of caterpillar this is but I caught him sneaking around on my parsley fern in my flower bed. He posed so nicely for me while I tried to get my inefficient tripod set up. (I need to get a new one; any recommendations for a tripod for macro photography?)

Canon Rebel T1i. 90mm macro lens. F/14 for 1/4 sec. ISO 200.

I don't know what kind of caterpillar this is either, but this photo is great!
Nice details and composition. I love how this bug is giving you a nice "s" shape pose.
Nicely done. :toast:

The tripod I use is a Gitzo GT2531 with a Kirk BH-1 ball head. Has worked really well for me.

Carolyn:
Nice curvy lines of this cat.
I use a light Manfrotto tripod and ball head - portable and good for backpacking.

Beautiful caterpillar, whatever it is, and beautifully captured. I wonder if it was feeding on the fern?

I am interested in the tripod recs, too, having struggled with my 20-year old tripod under similar circumstances. .

Great photo Carolyn. Really like the caterpillar as it is one I've never seen. Wionderful translucent coloring. Sorry, like the others, I have no idea as to it's identity. I asked a similar question in the gear forum about tripods and got several rec's for the Manfrotto 055XPROB. Looks like it is very nimble for getting into macro or low POV work. Getting close to ordering one but the bucks aren't quite there yet.

Gorgeous, Carolyn! As others have said, I love those curves. I also love the beautiful greens, and the soft light. Excellent choice for depth of field.

Great vertical framing, like the S-curve comp here too. Nice warm color, BG, and details also.
I use a Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 carbon fiber mini trripod, You can find it for under $300.00 & will serve you for years to come..
One thing I like about it most is the center column design that allows it to be used in either vertical or horizontal position. By extending the column to its highest vertical position, the column can be swung over to horizontal without removing the head or disassembling the column itself.
Have a great day :wavey:
