Stinky Alien Fungus

This fungus came up in our yard, was attacked by flies and then was gone in a couple of hours. I had to hold my breath while photographing with my 100mm macro because it stunk so bad.

Interesting but weird. Have never seen red fungus! At least the flies liked it and it went away quickly!

No wonder the flies liked it then; I often hold my breath when shooting but for a different reason :biggrin: Anyway, great details there, and I really like the contrast of the shiny blue fly against the red spongy fungus. Great shot!

Nice job with this one...strange and fascinating. The colors are alien, good details in the sponge-like surface and the larger fly.

I lie the colors here. The eyes of the fly are almost the same red as the fungus. Cool image :wavey:
