Plains Zebra on a plain

An image captured in the central Kruger Park early last year. The Kruger is so diverse, ranging from dense bush/thicket to lush forests and open "Serengeti-like" plains like these.

Techs:
Nikon D3s with Nikkor 600mm f4 VR
f5.0 @ 1/2500 SS @ ISO-500

Great setting Morkel and the image really 'pops' nicely. It does seem that the Nikon does produce some nice clean images, especially in settings like this. The RoTs really strengthens the composition and the tree really works well, breaking the almost horizontal 'look & feel'. I can't help wonder though if the zebras should be a bit more 'off centre', a little bit more to the left, however I also like it as presented.

Looks like a happy scene ! They seem to be frolicking under that pretty blue sky. The foreground has been rendered beautifully.

I, too, like how the tree is used to balance the zebras.

Wonderful overall scene and composition. I like the low perspective with not too much OOF grass, the colors with the yellow grass and blue sky plus the tree adds a nice balance. Well seen and well done.

thanks for your feedback guys...

Steve - I hear you regarding placement of the zebras, yet here I was looking holistically at the composition, and cropping out some space from the LHS would have resulted in a clipped bush in the BG, and I quite like that bush as a part of the greater scene.

Very nice image. It is really crisp and sharp and the color just pops. I so agree with Stephen that maybe moving the Zebras out of the center might strengthen the image.

Another wonderful shot Morkel, and perhaps the thing I like most about it is the way it appears as though the Zebras are totally oblivious to your presence, something that's all the more accentuated by the way you managed to capture this, seemingly by lying on the ground and poking your lens up just above the grass level, whether this was the position you were actually in or not ;^)

Very nice indeed and thanks for sharing :^)
