Martial Eagle

This Martial Eagle was collecting nesting material from a thorn bush in the Kalahari. Early morning and not as sharp as I was hoping. I think the 1.4 converter softened the image a bit.

Camera Model Canon EOS-1D Mark IV
Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1/2500
Av( Aperture Value ) 7.1
ISO Speed 800
Lens EF500mm f/4L IS USM +1.4x
Focal Length 700.0mm

The larger version is quite impressive Neal. That is some eagle. The sharpness looks darn good to me and I love the BG. I shoot a very high percentage of my images using the exact same set up as you used to shoot this Neal, and the use of the 1.4x TC on the 500 does not make a visable difference IMO. Now, my first 1.4x was faulty and produced very poor sharpness, but the new one is perfect. So, if you feel your images with the 1.4x TC on teh 500 are not as sharp as you think they should be it could be that particular TC is bad. Just a heads up. Cheers

A splendid image, Neal. The eagle's power shows with those wings up, and great techs imo. Love the bg as well.
As Ron mentioned, there are good and bad tc copies out there. The problem is if you get a bad one, what to do with it?
But it looks fine here.

Very nice image and I like the branch being carried. The sharpness looks pretty good from here.

Gorgeous looking eagle and a nice head on perspective. The thorn in the eye is a little unfortunate, but thats really minor.

Sharpness looks good to me. Great composition, and the nesting material is a bonus.
