Ready for Takeoff (+repost)

I took this takeoff shot this morning. It is only 25% of full frame, but hopefully still a decent image. I'm not sure if this is cropped properly. I have more room on all sides if needed. I know it may be too centered for some, but I don't always follow the "do not center" rule, especially if the subject is looking straight forward. I would love to know your opinion.

Critiques and comments are very welcome and appreciated. Thanks for looking!

What do you think it would look like if you cropped it to show more of the tree and less sky? Since it looks like the bird is moving forward and down, would it show where it is going? Perhaps not, just a thought.

Great exposure and colors, nice details in the LP even with this significant crop..
Have you considered an extender for that fine lens? Less time with your scalpel in PS
Not sure about the comp, the birds pose asks for more space below, less up top.
Hope I haven't been too hard on ya, it's how we improve here..
Still a great capture as posted Carol:toast:

Patrick & Howard - Thanks for the comments. Here is a repost with more room on the bottom and less on the top as suggested. I like this much better. I do have a 1.4TC, but unfortunately it was not on my camera when I took this photo.

Nice light and good detail on the Spoonbill Carol- the repost shows a much more pleasing comp IMO. :toast:

Wonderful pose and fine detail!
The re-post is even better - the bird wass ceneterd vertically, but there was too much sky. The tree leaves are much more interesting.
The large crop is not apparent at all - excellent!

Wonderful color detail, Carol. Gotta love these spoons, esp like this one with the gold. The repost works fine, although I like them both.

The repost took this image where it deserved to go. Nicely done.

Carol:
Just another vote for the repost. Actually, I was surprised by how much better the second version looked to me.
