Portage Glacier

A different view but again Ektachrome Professional Film 100 taken with a Mamiya 645. Scanned with a Epson V750 with betterscanning.com adjustable film holder. I am revisiting some of my older film images. This was taken in 1983 on a solo journey to Alaska for the second time. While the steel gray skies prevailed, the strong side lighting lit up the blues in the icebergs. A little bit more harsh light than my last post, but I like the overall moodiness of the scene. Don't know if it works for everyone so please let me know.

Thanks again for all your input on my last post.

BTW - I have been told by several in comments on my last post and previous one of Portage Glacier, that the ice in the lake is almost gone and the glacier is barely visible from this vantage point, so it makes it just that more special for me.

Side note - I was approximately the same age as my oldest son when I went on this journey. My oldest is now studying for his PhD in Nuclear Engineering at RPI. My youngest son, is "living the dream" (Outdoor Education Major at UNH). I told him to make sure he takes some some photo courses. So we will see what unfolds..... Hope one of them takes up photography as a hobby at least.

Works for me, somehow with the hint of mountains peeking through the clouds it's gives a foundation of reality for the unbelievable "blue" ice. Although I still like the first post, nice you've founds some tools to help perfect the scanning.

It is abeautiful scene Eva. The light is harsh but the mood you created by the darkness of the mountains (still with detail I observed) is lovely.

Nice to hear of your offspring advancing through higher education. I'd guess you oldest is more than a little concerned for the future of that industry with what has happened in Japan.

This works for me, too. Love the blue casts and contrasting highlights. The light does not strike me as harsh.

BTW, your big version has a black line across the top. Crop?

Eva, I like it as you processed it. It is a beautiful scene and in some way I felt before reading your comment that it had been taken a while back. A fine mood for the moment and a fine mood to remember the beauty that was then and there.

Love the dreamlike mood of the blues. That mist is real nice, also.

I like this much more than the last one--its a more dramatic, interesting scene with a nice fg/bg balance. The highlites in the middle rhs are still a little strong, but they dont dominate the way they did in the previous post. Nice! :wavey:

Thanks everyone for your comments and feedback.

Harley - The black across the top of the large view is lack of a crop. I missed it since I use a black background in Photoshop. Realized the mistake too late to delete and repost before the first comment.
