Rhododendron blossom

Our Rhododendron bushes are beautiful right now and quite full of flowers. This was taken when the buds were just starting to bloom. I threw some black velvet over a branch behind the bud so I could get more depth of field without a busy BG.

Canon Rebel T1i. 90mm macro lens. F/18 for 1/2 sec. ISO 100.

Well done! I like seeing just one opened...and the others closed...this gives me a simple view and chance to observe the leaves and surroundings. Nice colors with superb dof.

Carolyn:
Very nice to see this single bloom and the developing buds. Like the POV and clean bg.

Like others have said. This is a great comp and with the single blooom provides a fresh clean elegant image. Very well done Carolyn.

Excellent shot- Like the colours (purple is always a difficult colour on digital), the dark BG and your composition choice- Very well done, Fabio

I really like your pov and your decision to exclude the bg. Very beautiful flower and a great image, Carolyn!

Wonderful moment to have caught this, Carolyn ! Rhododendrons can be so difficult to compose, but this composition works superbly for me - and the detail is great too. I do somehow miss the natural bg but the decision to go black has to be right.

Beautiful!
Rhodies are tough - for me, anyway - to get a good comp on - this is excellent.
Very fine detail, my favorite lavender rhodie, and the square crop works very well.
That little light blip in the upper right could go..
