Kingbird and Sumac

While trying to get a shot of some Redstarts that were flitting around in some sumacs, this Kingbird landed close by and fed on sumac seeds for a few minutes.

I can't decide if the strange background spoiled this shot or not. :frown:

Nikon D300; Sigma 500/4.5; f7.1 @1/640th; HH 80%FF.

All comments and suggestions most welcome.

I love the unique pose. With wildlife pictures I usually don't get to hung up with the background and really didn't find it distracting until I read your description. I focused on the pose and the smooth quality of the bird's feathers. Nice photo!

Doesn't "spoil" it at all for me! If it really bugs you, you could clone it out - would take some work, though.
Great pose and berries, and great exposure.
Sandy.

I like it very much, background and all. I always see these guys in the state park across the street on sumac in the Spring...but never much at other times of the year. Seems like a lot of birds like it this time of year.

I'd darken the top bright area in the background, Tom. It draws the eye away from the subject. But I really like the inquisitive pose of the kingbird. It is very sharp nd the blossoms add a lot of character to the image. :toast:
