Marsh Wren

Taken last week at Bear River MBR. Our weather has been so downright nasty for so long that the refuge says that many of these males have had their "dummy" nests destroyed so they have to start over. That didn't keep this one from singing though. One of the few times I've ever been close to one without it being buried in the cattails.

7D, 1/2000, f/8, ISO 400, 500 f/4, 1.4 tc, shot from pickup window on 5/13/11, cropped to 56% of original image, slight exposure adjustment in ACR, sharpened bird and perch, no additional processing or adjustments, natural light, not set up or baited

Hi Ron. This is an awesome Marsh Wren image with a great singing pose. They are indeed hard to outsmart and catch in the open, making this even more impressive. The weather around here has also been crummy, looks like rain for the upcoming week - oh joy.

Oh, sweet shot Ron. These guys are so hard to get even in the reeds let along out in the open like this. Tack sharp with great DOF, super perch, and awesome BG. I would be ecstatic to have gotten this shot. Way to go, fantastic shot!

Good job catching him singing, Ron. I hear them often, but rarely see them in open. Super pose and background. Top notch techs and light as usual. I wonder how this will look as a vertical comp.

Wow, great image, Ron. Perfect singing pose, great perch and wonderfully understated oof habitat in the bg. It may be my monitor (I'm at work) but it looks like it might benefit from a very slight bump in brightness and contrast. :toast: :toast:

Ron,
The detail, exposure and sharpness are all top notch. I really love the perch and the open beak plus the fact that in the larger version you can see feather detail on the far side of the open beak. Superb Ron!

This is outstanding Ron. I tried to capture these guys when I was in Vancouver but they were always in bad light. Love the calling pose and I especially love the perch.

Ron, I commend you on the way you captured such a beautiful image of this marsh wren. I am utterly impressed with the clarity of the grays, browns and whites around the neck and facial region. Kind regards.
