Orchard Oriole

This was made this weekend at Matthew Studebaker's Ohio workshop in northern Ohio. It was a wild weather weekend, but we were lucky most of the time. This was an Oriole setup on the shores of Lake Erie. Fantastic experience and great teacher. There were dozens of Orioles around us constantly. I have so many photos, but I was excited to post at least one. Please critique.

Fine image! I like the way you have the oriole framed with the blooms on the branches. I like the detail you captured in the darker areas. Thanks for sharing.

This one landed in just the right spot Bryan. Lovely colors in the perch. Personally I'd like to see a bit more DOF for some of the flowers at bottom but it doesn't look like you had enough light to manage that.

Yes Ron, the light was a huge factor. I would have love to shoot like f/8 or so, but it was very overcast and drizzling at the time.

Bryan, I echo Ron's sentiments on this one, but you obviusly did the best you could with the available light. Love this branches around this bird!! Very well seen.

Very nice, Bryan. Nice perch, head turn and bg. I agree with the dof discussion. In a perfect world I'd vote for the bird to face the other way so that the upward facing branch would be to the bird's back and not it's face. Then I'd probably crop to a 5x4 ration. That said, this is a great shot and I'd be very pleased with it. Especially after trying to capture my own image of an Orchard Oriole in the rain this weekend and gettingnowhere near so nice a result.

Beautiful image. A bit over saturated for me.

Beautiful! Excellent pose, great detail.
The pink blossoms and branches frame the bird well.
My only suggestion would be to consider a tighter crop, if possible.

The color space as posted was sRGB, here is RGB Adobe 1998. I did not adjust or add saturation on the photo at all, so it might be the color conversion? I also added some more fill light to the bird as I felt the first was a little dark. I am baffled about the saturation, but I looked at this on the back of my camera just now and this is pretty close to what the camera captured, so I guess I will leave it. Thanks for the comments. I appreciate them.

Lovely shot Bryan - love the colours and comp. For the benefit of an ignorant Australian - what does an oriole set-up consist of?

cheers

The Setup was basically a hummingbird feeder set near an attractive branch. I was in a blind and the green BG was the grass in the yard.

Second one for me. Wish we had goodies like this over here!
As has been mentioned - nice framing by the branches.
Another "click on the thumbnail " job !

Wonderful composition to this setup. For some reason the second post looks better to me but a fine shot all the way around, nice job in getting this.
