Harvest Mouse

This harvest mouse is part of a breeding program with the british wildlife.
It was taken in studio conditions, but the mouse isn't domesticated.

Taken with a hand held macro lens.

The cropping is only the top and bottom of the picture slightly, to square off the image - i agree the tail's quite near the rhs, but i was taking this image so quickly! i nearly missed his tail.

After lots of "tail" in the frame only shots as it ran rapidly up and down the corn (mostly facing away from me!) he then just seemed to cheekily "pose" as if to say, "well come on then!!"

I appreciate your comments, critique and feedback - Its the only way to learn and improve.
Thanks

This is an excellent shot Joanna. My first impression was wow, how on earth did she manage to get that. Studio explains that, but it is very nicely done. I imagine British Wildlife would be really happy with that shot!

Looks really natural and very good, if it were me (and I am no expert) I would have attempted portrait (as i think you did reading your description) with the mouse at the top and the stems in the bottom 3rd leading up to the mouse if that makes sense. Just a though feel free to ignore i wont be offended! :toast:

Hi Phil,

thanks for the comment - i agree in a way - and at club level the more portfolio/portrait (apologies if wrong words) shot has done better in one competition - but in another this one did !
Every comment, good and bad will help me improve, thanks

I love the composition of the last post top draw and a quality shot as well :toast: :toast: Now if you could get him to look at you like the first one with the composition and tail position of the second that would be something, but thats why we keep trying going back ... Both top shots and hope you don't feel I am being critical because I am not in anyway, just giving an idea, I think they are both wonderful and would be proud of either :toast: :toast:

PS I was expecting another kingfisher from you!

I was spoilt for choice, which image to choose to get some helpful feedback on !
I really dont mind people being critical at all, i'm not precious, and it'll help me improve, especially the "would be better if" feedback,.
I post this properly in a few days, but since you said - here's the image of the kingfishers i was going to get advice on :-) :-) (only crop was small on rhs to put pole in middle of bottom corner instead of near the corner)
(yes being greedy now !! :-) its just so much better than the other photo forum type is was one, where everyone just said "really nice shot" which is nice, but doesn't help me improve.

I recongnise that pole! I have them mating on it, too slow a shutter speed though, you've done a great job with getting the two sharp and the action frozen :toast: :toast:

Both are lovely images, but I prefer the second one.

The second one for me Jo. The vertical composition is a lot stronger in this instance.

Cheers

Joanna, both shots are great, but 1st one for me. I think the eyes show the mouse's "personality" better. Chris
