Herring Gull w/ Quill

Olympus E-3, 300mm w/ 1.4TC, tripod
f6.3, 1/640, ISO100

A Herring Gull with a problem: a porcupine quill through his mandible, probably picked up on a road-killed quill pig. Ouch.

Cropped to vertical. Slight adjustment to levels. Selective sharpening to bird.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

I thought it was a pinfeather? Nice job on the exposure. Sharon

Nice capture to get the quill -- gotta be a hungry gull to go after that meat
