Quetzal (C)

Quetzal is a bird considered at risk because of the savage deforestation of the central/south America's rain forests. Its iridescent blue-green plumage was very appreciated for hats and feathers crowns.

This one, there are two of them, is in captivity in a LIPU center (LIPU is the Italian League for Birds Protection and the center name is Oasi di Sant. Alessio - literally translated in Saint Alessio's Oasis). I don't know why it is there and I didn't ask.

Hope you could appreciate how wonderful are the feathers colors.

D2Xs - iso 400 - Auto WB - SPOT
Nikkor 200-400 F/4 250mm 1/50 sec - Tripod with Wimberley head - VR off

PP. Camera raw: gain 3 - Fill in light 13 Blacks 1 - PSCS5 : increased expo and lights for the head, Highlights reduced on the left(for viewer) wing, overall brightness

Comment and critiques well accepted.

Cheers, Luca

Nice, Luca. I might have tried bringing the brightness on the body up a bit more, but this still comes through very well in the larger version.

The wonderful feather colors (and texture) do come through, especially in the larger version. :toast:

Good job in PS to bring up the shadowed areas, difficult light from directly above.
Like the slightly off center comp, great colors and details - Gorgeous bird! :toast:

I particularly like the back lighting here. What a magnificent bird! The detail in the feathers and the crispness of the entire image is near perfection.
