A friend of mine asked me to photograph this crumbled, dried leaf (we think it's a split-leaf philodendron) as she wants to draw it some time and didn't want it to completely crumble.

I processed this image using Topaz Simplify and then added a texture overlay, plus a bit of cropping to get a better composition.

Camera is a Nikon D7000, manual settings with tripod in natural light.

Comments are greatly appreciated. I may try to capture this leaf using pen and ink, which are my favorite tools, after my camera (of course).

Hey barb, there are actually some cool comps within the leaf. Try getting in really close and fill the frame with some of those cool patterns.

Fascinating patterns. I'm astonished that this is a single leaf. When I saw the thumb, I was thinking a clump of oysters. Your processing has brought out the lines and textures beautifully.

Unique and strangely beautiful. excellent detail. I agree with Mike that a tighter shot would really do the wonderful patterns justice.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Sorry I have not responded sooner; life gets in the way some times. Here is a tighter shot of this fabulous leaf. Definitely see all the details. Thanks again for viewing.

Nice! Makes me want to get out my ink pens and get back to drawing again! I like the textured look to the image - well done in PS! Very subtle and very nice.

Varina, yes, it made me want to get out my pen and ink as well, but it's going to have to wait for another day. I had to return the leaf to my classmate but at least I have the photos to work from. Maybe this winter I'll get to work on it.
