Lovin' the Light

My friend Dave said he was having problems with those streaks of light up close, but from a distance, I was loving it. (He usually does not stand still very long, but he was trying a long exposure, too. ) This little waterfall normally has much less water, but the flood-level waters around here just won't let up.

I posted a shot in the Landscape Gallery here that shows what this scene looked like last fall.

Canon 50D
Sigma 17-70mm.
1 sec. @ f/16; ISO 100
Circ. Polarizer + 3-stop ND
Double-processed in ACR and hand-blended to tone down highlights.

I love the sense of scale your friend adds to the scene Wayne. The water motion is wonderful and I can hear the roar! I guess with all the snow this winter in the NE, epic flows are expected.

woah! Talk about the difference a season makes . . . I think this is beautiful and the other person in the frame shows the scale of it nicely which is something that is absent on the other image. Perfectly executed with nice lighting

Lots of nice elements in this image. The water streaks flowing right to left and then the creek returning to the right really make the image dynamic. Your friend provides a nice balance to that strong light streak in the top left and establishes perspective. Great job!

Thought he might be answering the call of nature by the stance on the thumbnail so I'm happy to see the tripod on the main size  It just goes to show how relaxed your friend feels in the context of nature and photography. Very nice.

the light is wonderfully mixed. The detail is great, and I like the inclusion of your friend. The difference in flow is impressive.

I like the image Wayne. Nice comp. and framing. I would bring out a bit more details in the water and would try to change the color of the person's shirt to red/deep blue in PS.

That's a beauty Wayne!! I can certainly relate to the water levels, similar story here in PA. I've got to get out to some of the falls before it's too late!! Thanks for this inspirational photo.

Beautiful water and lots of it. Including your friend in the image adds a story line I find pretty effective.

Agree with others that the person in the image really adds a sense of scale without which I would have thought the fall was much smaller. Lovely lighting and great compositon. A faster shutter speed would make the water look more chaotic giving a sense of the power of the fall to this image. Particularly with the person right in front of the flow.

Fine shot. The man makes it, a good breakup to the beautiful water and rest of natural setting.
