In what context this image should reside will be a mystery for some, but I'll wager more than a few will know. I'll put it in context later.

A mystery to me. My wild guess is that it should be surrounded by dirt. Interesting texture in the image.

Not a clue. Maybe that's because I'm the newbie to the WC gallery? Is there an inside joke I'm not getting? It looks like wood to me, and the light is really nice. Soft shadows, wonderful textures, and I love the patterns. Beautiful shot - but I have no idea why it's out of context. I'll look forward to the answer!

Like the repeating patterns & great details. Hard to know at this magnification what this is..I'll go with plant material of some kind. It's Spring so are you planting? Could be a closeup of part of a bulb?
Will be interesting to know

No one close yet. I have the image that will put this in "context" all ready and resized for 720 px. I'll hold a little since some one may hit this soon.
Hint: This may be too broad and may give it away immediately. This surface was oxidized and has been wire wheelled down to clean surface.

Not mastodon and actually from a specie that roams today. Your getting closer Lucy.

Looks like the shell of some kind of mollusc, not an abalone or a scallop but some kind of shell? You came out of yours a long time ago Charlie.

And sorry Paul you don't win that great prize that Varina has ready for the winner. Not a sea living creature.
