Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted May 5, 2011193 views9 comments
Tiger Swallowtail busily moving around in our garden, from today..
Not many flowers up yet, so it didn't stay long. The best of about a dozen clicks.
Taken around 12:30, clear and sunny.
F/18, 1/500th, ISO 640, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4 ext & natural light.

This worked out great Howard. Flower and butterfly are sharp as a tack. We have not seen these here in Oregon yet. Is this one less yellow than usual or are they that color in your neck of the woods? :wavey:

There must be a variance Charlie..maybe they just get more yellow with age - Like us
I left it at "shot" settings and auto WB, slight level adjust. Also the bright mid-day light may have played a factor?
Your guess is as good as mine :wavey:

Great capture of an elusive subject, Howard. I like the comp for this, your details, and the nice blurred BG.

Howard: Really nice capture of a special moment. Our garden has lots of flowers and host plants but very few butterflies and no caterpillars. Casualty of the drought perhaps? A real keeper here. >=))>
