Luz do Cântaro

"Luz do Cântaro" (Portuguese), photography from "Cântaros Lagoon", the iconic but remote 'Cântaro Gordo' mountain peak formation - deep in the heart of Estrela Sierra Natural Park in Portugal, continental Portuguese highest mountains range.

Shot at sunrise, after a 2 hour tough hike by dawn; I had a hard time reaching the lake, got there really exhausted, due to a difficult terrain to cross, deep (recent) snow, frozen waterlines, slippery ice and so on. I hadn´t had much time to study my comp. and besides I had been there a few times before, it´s always challenging... I was strongly enjoying all the silence, quietness and magical beautiful mountain light during the sunrise. Unforgettable experience in the 'Lusitanian' mountains...

Captured in Nikon Digital, used tripod, wide-angle Nikkor lens, cable release. No filters applied (All dynamic range fits the shot).

Thanks for any feedback you may have, I was particularly interested about sky/water contrast and color in this image.

Helio C.

Perfect placement of that rock for some added depth here and gorgeous light. Very well done, Helio.

A powerful composition and impressive colors! The rock in the foreground adds an interesting counterpoint.
