Spent an afternoon in Cape Henlopen State Park with my camera.
This was photographed with my Nikon D300s, nikor 60mm macro lens, ISO 200, 1/30 sec, f/8.0

I love the intricate veins on the bottom petals however i'm finding it hard to find the focus point of your composition. The leaves are too sharp and take quite a lot of the viewer's attention, especially since they seem to have some white something sprinkled over them.

It's pollen season here and everything is covered with yellow pollen. My eyes go right to the purple veins.

I really like the deep purple color of the lip and the orange and green of the center, but my eyes keep getting pulled back to the oof and blown out upper petals. As you can see from my shot, I'm a big fan of lot of dof, so I'd love to see those upper petals in focus, but if your style is to leave the oof, I'd suggest burning them in to a very light gray. Then they won't attract so much attention.

What a beautiful violet. We don't have this variety where I live so thanks for posting it. I agree that would like a little more sharpness, but that is my personal preference. Where is Cape Henlopen State Park?

Sue: On my monitor the whites actually look OK although certainly close to the edge. Because of the shape of the flower I might crop this to near square from each side. In the field I would have tucked the leaf on the top under the petal but that's a pretty small nit. Good work.>=))>

Sue,
I agree with the comments and suggestions already made. I too would prefer a little more dof and a tad duller white in the upper petals. I like the composition very much and also the mood of the image.

very interesting violet Sue, the purple is what my eye goes to, but a little more depth would not hurt my feelings also. Neat shot.
