Another from Tigertail Beach, Marco Island, FL in March. This is another example of my process of learning to work in manual. I got the exposure right but could have paid more attention to the variables (and used a slower SS to use a lower ISO). No NR though, as the 7D can handle 640 pretty well if you get the exposure right in camera.

I appreciate your comments and critiques. Please view the larger version if possible.

Canon 7D, 500mm + 1.4x TC, skimmer groundpod, lying in sand

f/7.1, 1/3200, ISO 640

Crop to 82% of original (14.7 of 18MP)

Still working on getting consistently correct exposures with my 7D, but encouraging to know that once I have that down pat I can safely bump my ISO up to 640 ;^)

Wonderful to see such detail in those whites, and the eye with the catchlight is a real corker! Perhaps the thing I love most about this image though is the fantastically low angle of view you acquired; has me imagining you dug yourself a hole and have your lens resting on the ground, great job Brian :^)

Getting low is definitely the way to go with shorebirds and waterfowl - excellent work!

Hard to get any lower perspective than that and that low perspective really makes the shot for me. Good detail on the larger image, well done.

Great low angle Brian, your groundpod is paying off nicely. Exp. and detail are very good with a pleasing BG as well.

Nice that you were able to get this low and so close. Patience paid off here. Nice sharpness. Just started using a skimmer but I was out in the cold wetlands last week and had to use the car as a blind...

I like the low perspective, eye contact and detail you've captured Brain. Exposure is spot-on too.
