If you hadn't have told us in the title this is a Roe Deer I would have guessed this as being a Kangaroo ;^)

I very much like the concept you ran with here Ron and I love the fact that you've caught some light on the subject's nose, making this one appear very healthy indeed :^)

Unfortunately the subject appears a little soft, which makes me wonder if you were handholding your 500mm as opposed to using a tripod, something you you didn't mention in your shooting data.

Again though, I like the idea behind the shot :^)

Hi Ron,

I think the crop suits the subject well and that's certainly one clean background! While I'm a fan of creative lighting, the strong sidelighting has produced a lot of contrast and very dark shadows here and, at least for me, the resulting portrait is a little bit harsh for my taste. Of course, this is totally subjective and many may like the depth and dimensionality added by the lighting.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

I like the composition, but I'm not sure about the lights. As Brad stated the dark side of the muzzle is too much in shadow (well I don't know how to say it differently) for my taste (and I generally like dark images). One mo thing,: for what I can see maybe a different aperture (F/8?) could have added some DOF and let the nose been in apparent focus.

Cheers,
Luca

Those are a pair of ears. I like the contrast for this image, although I usually don't. But here it adds mystery to an animal I've never seen.
