Fritillaries
by Fabio Giarrizzo
Just to inaugurate the new D300s an image of two small butterflies (Melitaea sp- not sure about the exact species) on an ear- Taken on late afternoon.
Slightly cropped, noise reduction and selective sharpening.
Nikon D300s; Nikkor 300mm F4; ISO 500; F7,1; 1/50; -0,33 EV; added flash (-2); tripod
Any comment is welcome, Fabio

18 commentsA smaller aperture would have helped to sharpen up the top wing of the l/h butterfly.

Wonderful colours, poses, detail, and BG. Like the framing, too!
Love how the orange specks in the grass echo the colours of the butterflies.
I might suggest cropping higher - about 1/4 of the lower stem - the stem seems a little long, and makes the image unbalanced.

Neatly composed frame with smooth, clean bokeh. And apt DOF to top it off.
Kudos !
A most pleasing image, and two for one!
