Hello everyone, it's springtime and marmots get out from their caves. There are places in the western Alps where i usually go to watch them playing freely and where I like sitting in the nowhere standing there with nothing to do (like the song) but studying their behavior and attitudes. Sometimes I'm spotted the very moment I turn the corner and disappear in a snapshot, some times they tolerate my presence and keep on playing. Some other, like in this case, I saw them in a place, took a long turn not to be seen and when I arrived at destination they were playing ... exactly were I started my climb 200 meters below: frustrating!!! :frown:

Ok, techs:
D2Xs - Iso 200 - Auto White Balance
AF Nikkor 300 f/4 + TC 1.7 (=500mm) - f/8 - 1/800sec
metering: spot
compensation:-0,67
subject distance:15m

PP: Cut for presentation (45/50% from the original)

Your comments are, as always, very appreciated.

Cheers, Luca

Nice environmental image. The dof and focus are right on and I like the comp. also.

Love the composition and peek-a-boo effect you have here with this Marmot Luca :^)

Not sure if this would improve the image or not, but if this were mine I think I'd work a little more in Shadows & Highlights to see if I could make the Marmot "pop" a little better.

So they doubled back on you. Sneaky varmits. You caught this one nicely, Luca. Great eye contact and I like how the head pops up from the grass. Good dof, also. And Ashley may be right about giving it a little more contrast, not much though.

Nice detail, especially with the good catchlight. I like the repost better. I would suggest you might try warming the white balance just a bit and maybe boost brightness slightly. Your chosen comp and depth of field work well for me.
