Black-faced Woodswallow

by Rob Drummond

This woodswallow is hanging on for dear life in strong winds as the last rays of the sun dip below the horizon. I could have cropped it closer but liked the sky and small size of the bird battling the elements.

1D2n 500/f4 1.4X
ISO 400 f8 1/400 exp comp -1/3 background is storm clouds

cheers
Rob

Nice glow in this image. Good head turn and light in the eye. I like the generous crop combined with the minimal perch. (The larger version is the same as this one)

This image really conveys the situation. I love the comp and the position of the bird on the perch.

Rob: Fantastic light on the bird. I don't mind the looser crop. I'm a little bothered by the composition with the left half being negative space. Maybe moving the bird just a bit to the left? If there is any space on the right to avoid have the perch intersect with the right edge that would feel more comfortable as well. Small nits on a fine image.

The golden hues of the subject and perch are really beautiful Rob, and the composition works very well to my eye :^)
