Grey-Headed Kingfisher

On one of the rare days we had some nice afternoon sunshine during my 2007 trip to Tanzania, we found this little fellow perched near the road along the shores of Lake Manyara. It was surprisingly cooperative given our proximity, allowing me to snap a few shots before flying away.

Very nicely exposed capture of this very attractive Kingfisher Max. I really like the thorny perch and the fact that you caught the subject with it's bill opening, making it appear as though it was attempting communication with you ;^)

Very nice image indeed :^)

A nice comp Max with good BG, interesting perch, and nice open beak pose. Your exposure looks very good too. Hard to assess critical detail and sharpness from the smaller version.

Great image. Love the perch. Nice eye contact and light. I continue to be amazed by the vast array of different kingfishers. So different in their coloring, but each easily identifiable as a kingfisher by the shape of the beak.

Nice light and details, esp in the blacks. The perch looks painful! Nice image. Sharon

Fabulous bird well captured. I especially like the head-turn and the open bill adds interest.

What a interesting bird with good directional light to bring out the colors, that bill is almost as big as the kingfisher. I go back and forth on the crop (vertical vs horizontal) but a fine image as is, way to go.
