Bourke's Parrot
by Rob Drummond
Just back from a week in north western NSW where the record rains over summer have turned 1000s of square kilometres of stony desert into vast grasslands and waterholes. We had a ball.
Bourke's Parrots are probably our most delicately coloured parrot and inhabit arid regions of Australia

13 commentsThe Neophema parrots, to which the Bourke's belongs, have small bills that follow the contour of the head and therefore don't protrude as much as some other species.

Seriously, lovely to see such an unusual bird :^) Though I have to say there seems to be some level of irony going on between such elegant lines with beautifully subtle pastel colouration and then the sudden contrast by Nature's design finishing it off with such a remarkably small bill ;^)
Final impression: Love the species and love the way you've captured and presented it :^)
