Blooming dogwoods along Middle Prong, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, TN/NC

Hey all,

It's been a while since I've posted, busy times have taken all my fee time to post here at NPN. I see the end of the tunnel and almost totally caught up so I hope to spend a little more time here. Anyway, I just returned from my Smoky Mountains Spring Workshop and thought I'd post an image from the trip. Let me know what you think.

Jerry, you show us wonderful colors of spring in your image! I especially appreciate the elements of motion counterpointing the tranquillity of this scene.

Very nice image Jerry. All of the elements work together very well here. The spring greens and flowering dogwoods are beautiful.

Wow Jerry, this is gorgeous. Really makes me want to jump on a plane right now!

The splash of dogwoods throughout the scene is tremendous. The only thing I'm not sure on is the dominant tree trunk on the left third. It breaks the pattern a bit. Not a big nit, just something that caught my eye and pulled me away from my favorite elements of the image.

Very pretty Jerry. The vibrant greens look great as a backdrop to the dogwoods. I do wish there was a little more water visible.

Beautiful spring image. Really makes me want to be there. Just the right amount of water for me and I like how it looks. The woods look wonderful with the dogwood mixed in, and with that great light. :toast:

Simply gorgeous, Jerry. The flow of the dogwood branches matches the water in way that is very pleasing. Glad to see you posting again!

Wonderful image and I agree the light is nice. I am headed to the Smokies this weekend for a week of shooting. I can only hope to be as fortunate to capture a nice image such as this. Thanks for sharing.

The water feels a tad bright on my monitor, but other than that, I think this is a find and a half! :toast: You've really captured the feeling of spring with the trees all budding...

I just love Spring time in the Smokies and this image shows a few of the reasons why. I could spend the rest of my life photographing scenes like this and never get bored. Glad to see you taking a few moments to post here on NPN. I'm trying to do the same after a recent trip to the Smokies. Just curious..what was the deciding factor in using the TS-E as opposed to another wide angle? Just curious. Thanks!

Super image Jerry. Looks like you took a brush and painted that water. The dogwoods really work on the spring green. I think the trunk on the left third works. Kind of sets up a reapeating pattern through the woods.

I'm heading there in the morning. I hope you left a few shots for the rest of us.

I love this spot and this is a beautiful shot really like the comp and the SS is perfect. I will be going up next weekend but that more than likely will be too late for the dogwoods.

Thank you all for the great comments!

Kirk, to answer your question about the TS-E's and why I use them. For me they are the best choice for landscape photography. With them I have total control over perspective. My trees will always be straight and I can be certain that my DOF will be as I want it using the best f-stop for maximum detail. I use the TS-E 24mm, 45mm and the 90mm for 95% of my landscapes. I also use the TS-E's for stitching panos and high resolution images.

Michael, they were flirting with "past-peak" when I photographed them. I hope they hold out for you.
