These birds fly back from Africa each year,to nest outside my back door.I put up a nestbox on a rose trellis fixed to the wall. Before flying into the box they would often land on the back of a nearby garden chair. Not very natural,so I fixed this piece of elder to the chair back.

Nice pose, perfect perch, fine detail - very well-done!
I'd personally clone out that little bit of twig protruding from the base of it's tail..

Great job setting up this shot Phil. The larger version looks great, love the greens and how you composed this. To my eye the smaller version looks a little bit oversharpened. :toast:

You picked a nice branch for this set up Phil, nice of the birds to nest so close to home. I like the pose, the light and the greens of the leaves shown here, nice details. I agree with Nate that the smaller version seems a tad over sharpned while the larger version looks fine. Easy to back up sharpneing though!

Wow, beautiful image, Phil. You did a marvelous job setting up the perch and bg and then made a perfect image of the bird when it landed. :toast:

Phil - simply wonderful. The colours make for such a great and complementary backdrop for the bird, but your choice of adding the mossy perch just completes the package. Great light, comp, and pose! I think I agree with Sandy re: cloning the twig out from the right of the lower tail, or at least seeing what it looks like with and without it there. The larger version takes this from very good to even more good! Nicely envisioned and captured.
