There's no need to build a dam in the flooded swamp, so the beavers just pile sticks and mud around a clump of cypress. They also like to gnaw the bark on the knees and base of the trees which leaves ugly scars.

What can I say, David. You master this place and whatever you post from there shows this place in a new an beautiful way. Again a very good shot from there.

Beautiful image, David. Whatever "damage" beavers cause these trees is nothing compared to the impact our own species has.

I like the delicate light on the moss and young leaves David. The larger view is especially beautiful.

I like that the greenery is still bright and vibrant. Interesting environmental image, as well as artistic. Beautiful shot.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback.

Guy you are so right. Practically all of the old growth cypress in Louisiana was clear cut. There are a few scattered ancients left standing, but no significantly large tracts are left. To add insult to injury the second growth trees are under threat of logging for mulch. A local group, the Atchafalaya Basinkeepers, has been key in exposing the deceptive marketing practices of the cypress mulch industry and put a stop to several illegal operations. They are a great example of an effective local grass roots organization.

The composition of this is tremendous! I like it better than the earlier post of a tighter shot. The larger version looks a little over sharpened for the web - or maybe darken the image slightly. The sharpening may have added some contrast that lightened it too much- epecially with all of the detail in it. You rock the swamp. :toast:

Really been enjoying this series. Even though chewed, the brightness of the trunks is a great way to focus in the eye. Another winner!

Great image. Really like the soft light and the hanging mossy stuff. I never would have guessed beavers had been at work, thanks for sharing.
