Here's another image from the Fort Pierre National Grasslands. He was moving fairly quickly at this point, and crouching as he came up on prairie dog mounds. C and C welcome, as always.

Nice pose here. Even with the 1/2000, the SS was not fast enough to stop the action - the coyote is still quite soft. A lower F-stop might have helped, but this still would have been a tough shot.

Great action image. The comp and dof are very good. I can feel the open prairie around him.

Nice expression on the coyotes face. I like the action pose you caught it in. It is a bit soft, and to me the colors seem just a little washed out. Still it is a very good coyote in its habitat image, thanks for sharing.

Hi Keith,

I like the focus of the coyote here - I don't know how many times I've seen this "pose" - so it's really representative of the species (which I think is great). I also like the overall colour palette - it shows nicely how the coyote blends in so well with the environment it lives in. I agree with the others who pointed out the image is a BIT soft (I don't think it's motion blur)...but definitely not so much as to cause the image much harm. If you have more room all around I'd consider cropping some of the out-of-focus foreground out and replacing it with more on the top side of the image (lowering the coyote in the frame as you do so). But that's totally a personal preferences issue...

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

I love the action pose and your perspective.

The low angle of view and composition of this are fantastic Keith, but most of all I love the sense of purpose this image portrays of a Coyote so apparently on the hunt :^)

Not being from your part of the world, and never having actually seen a Coyote in real life, I may be completely off the mark by saying this, but purely from a viewer's perspective, if this were mine I think I'd work a little with Shadows and Highlights in PS to enrich the colours a bit. I'd also have a go at sharpening the subject to see whether I could make the hair of it's coat stand out a little more.
