Well I waited and finally they came near enough to grab a few shots. The drake was protecting his mate as she feed. Shot 10 minutes from my house! Thanks for looking!

Nice photo Michael. Great colors and nice clarity. Maybe a bit tighter crop would work too.

Congratulations on the Wood Duck. This species is on my short list of most difficult species to photograph. Getting detail in the whites and blacks is tough. You've done very well here. The twigs in the matter are a bit distracting but you can only photograph what the bird gives you.

Michael, I feel your joy, congradulations on your first wood duck. I had my first about a month ago also.
I love the sharpness and the colors of the bird in this soo natural environment. I think the tonal range is very will done with the blacks and the whites.
I personally think I would crop a bit tighter on the top and the right to cut down some on the rough bg. To me that may allow me to keep focus on the bird. Then, I would be getting a frame for this one. :toast: :toast:

A nice shot of this wood duck in habitat Michael and good work on the exposure too. I might crop some from the top to minimize the imapct the grasses/reeds have in that part of the frame.
