Fish in my Salad + Repost

This image was captured the same day but an hour earlier in the morning. I took quite a few shots and I could not figure out why the Egret was battleing the water grass (I do not know what it is). Again, when I went through the images at home, I saw the fish in the grass. It can be seen at the top of the grass in the bill. He did get the fish and this Snowy caught a lot bigger fish than the last.

Cropped to 70% of full frame.

Comments are appreciated.

Don't much care for fish in my salad...
Harry, the egret's stance is a nice one. Love the wings fanned upward and the fact that its trying to extract the fish from the weeds, but there's something wrong with the processing. Looks like you darkened too much in Raw because the image went to grey. I see that it was shot under very harsh light, but when toning down you want to do it selectively, not globally, if that's what you did.

Harry, I like the action. The colors do appear a bit off to me. Moreover, I would like to see what this looked like in a vertical the excluded all the "stuff" to the right of the bird.

Wayne and Ron B, Boy what a difference. I just sharpened a bit in LR3 and resized in PSE9 this time and went to a vertical crop. Thanks a lot. Maybe I am better off not processing LOL.

Harry,
The repost is soooooo much better. Love the title of this post too. As we've talked about before, getting a snowy in direct sunlight with no cloud cover and no exposure compensation can be very tough. I love the wing position and the reflection in the water and the weeds might even add to the comp. If you have any more canvas at the bottom to catch the entire reflection you might want to add that in. I may see you and Eric at BC tomorrow. It's so hot I think I need to go to the coast for some relief.

The re-post is vastly superior, Harry. I like it very much. If it were mine, I'd close out the blotchy OOF objects above the head and to the left of the right wing. A minor nit, easily fixed.

Harry, I agree with the other posters, the repost is much better. Love the action and how the wings are raised & spread. Given that you don't show the entire reflection I might crop some from the bottom and leave more at the top of the vertical repost.
