Dawn at Hunneberg in Sweden and out from the woods came this Red Deer with his son. Sometimes you are lucky to be at the right place when it happens. The mother was already out in the pond drinking water.

70-200 lens at f/3,5 and 145 mm

I quite like the effect of the deer nicely lighted in a somber, dark toned environment. The composition works pretty well for me, although I question the big foreground rock that is almost, but not quite in focus. You might consider cropping the rock, although it changes the sense of place a little. A minor, but easy tweak, would be to selectively darken the little bright highlights on the trees in the upper left corner of the frame so they do not draw the eye away from the main subjects.

Hi Christer, I quite like the feel of this. The habitat and light are very compelling. Lon has got some good points about the bright patches in the BG trees and about the FG rock. IMO ideally a bit more DOF would have enhanced the FG more than it would have harmed the BG. Without knowing your camera and SS and ISO settings I have no idea if that as a realistic option at all though.

Intimate image, Christer. I agree with Lon about darkening the whites on the trees, but as far as the rock goes, I imagine you left it to show the water, and in that case making it darker might reduce the oof feel of it.
