Super Cool Bird Phil Excellent detail in the bird and tree trunk, I think the slightly oof background branches add a nice bit of additional habitat without being too distracting.

Phil - this is exquisite. The overall colour palette is wonderful, especially the contrast of the bird's orange to the soft greens.
The sharpness and texture of the bark is also outstanding. Nice of this woodpecker to pick such a photogenic perch!
But what really sets this one apart from so many other similar images is the inclusion of the coniferous branches, needles and cones. Helps portray the bird in his environment without becoming too busy or distracting, at least in my opinion. I also like your choice of comp and crop, leaving a little room for your subject to "breathe" as well as continue in his probable upward direction.
Great image...I'm frankly jealous but am happy to say nicely done!

The setting takes this to the next level for me Phil. Love the greens and all the different textures in this shot. Bird is sharp and well exposed. A really strong comp with very nice image quality. Well done.

Phil, this is a fabulous image! The color, perch, and background make it hard to take your eyes off it and as far as I can see it is technically perfect.

Love the BG branches, the pose, bright colors, and texture of the tree.
Usually, all these different elements together would end up looking "messy" - but this is just excellent!
All work together perfectly!

Lovely pose, eye contact, setting and light Phil. It sure is a beautiful Woodpecker species. I might reduce the sharpening a small amount on the tree trunk, but that is a very minor issue.

Super sharp, great exposure techs and well composed, Phil. I particularly like the pose and the head turn of the woodpecker. The tree bark and background pines add a lot to this.

Beautiful colors, and I like very much how the woodpecker is immersed in its environment... Excellent and classic composition,
with a perfect setting (and an extremely sharp subject).

Great woodpecker species. It could maybe use a tiny bit more contrast in the curves adjustment for everything to "pop". I like the branch of the larch too (I think I got that right).
