Oman, where else?

This is actually from the same place as my latest submission to the ES&S (well... Landscape) gallery, but obviously from a rather different perspective in terms of the subject. I asked my friends - who were eager to climb onto those dunes - to drop me from the car some short distance before the dunes to get that shot, and it turned out the way I had hoped for. No big deal, but I like the result.

Techs: Nikon D90, 70-300 VR @ approx 100mm f/9.

Curious to hear what you think!

The vehicles definitely give perspective to the image. I would rather see just the dunes, but then you don't have much to compare them with, to see just how big they are. Those dunes are fabulous.
It sure conveys a feeling of hot and dusty!!!!

Are those people near the center of the dunes? Looks like a wonderful place to explore.

Hi Basil. This would make an interesting poster for LandRover. The traveling cars certainly put the way to the dunes, and I like the added interest of what appears to be dust as the cars move.

Cheers,

Carol

Thanks for your comments.

Genny - I took lots of shots with just the dunes. If you're interested, just have a look on my website, or as already mentioned, at my last (and probably also future) submission to ES&S.

Carol - Toyota, actually. That said, I think there's a much deeper subject implicated in your comment. It's about wilderness no longer being wilderness if people can easily reach it, and about car manufacturers advertising that you can reach wilderness easily with their cars. But then, I don't think that the Rub al Khali is in immediate danger of becoming flooded by tourists...

Eva - I don't really understand the question (but I agree that it was a great place to explore  ). Anyways, this was one of the first star dunes we saw on the trip, so we made a quick detour to explore that one, and actually climbed to one of the peaks (this is where one of my previous M&N submissions comes from - maybe you were referring to that?).
