The lake was like glass and the bands of clouds were cool, even if the sun didn't light them up with colour. This was my first visit to this area, supposedly there are some cool peaks hidden behind the clouds.

Wow!!! I'm glad I clicked on this! As a thumbnail I think it misses its drama, but now larger this is very beautiful and very dramatic!!! :toast:

This is an excellent comp imo. Excellent movement and flow. And I like the detail in the rocks in the water as well as the whole mood. The larger view is a must see!

Again, don't get to sad about the lack of comments here. The thumbnail really misses the quality of this shot. The larger version reveals its dark beauty! A great image IMO.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Thanks Mark, I appreciate you taking the time to comment. With so many great photographers posting here I really struggle to capture and present images that are of similar quality. Since finding this site about a year ago, I've had my eyes opened to the potential landscape photography has to express my creativity. It's nice when people like my photos, and I enjoy the time in the field and the challenges of getting "quality" photos. Besides, my mom says I'm a good photographer! :toast:

Dean you are doing a great job. I think the issue is really people are in a hurry (like me) and only have seconds to choose the thumbnails. The thumbnail here just so happens to be the type that does not look all that great at first glance (that is what I thought). But then as your eye gets trained a little more you see the thumbnails and you think well, maybe that one is better that the thumbnail makes it out to be. I thought that too. At large size this image is as beautiful and dramatic as any IMO. It has a dark dramatic eerie quality to it and conveys awesome quiet power. I think most are getting spoiled by the quality of over the top images on this forum, and sometimes the subtle softer spoken beauty gets overlooked a bit. This image is good enough to win awards, so be encouraged and keep moving forward!
