Osprey lunch

Spotted this Male* Osprey eating a fish on a telephone pole this afternoon.

Nikon D300s 300 f4 + 1.7X TC HH
f/8
1/1600s
ISO 400
-.33 EC

Straightened horizon (using telephone pole as the "horizon") otherwise it's full frame with canvas added on the right (to replace what was lost during the straightening). Sharpened using smart sharpen and USM in CS5 on 27" iMac

- Luke

*Males return their former nests before females to ensure they have the territory all to themselves. This Osprey utilizes the nest a few hundred yards from where this photo was taken and the 2nd bird has not arrived yet.

Great view of those fearsome talons. Nice behavior with the osprey having lunch. I also like the detail and the look at that awesome yellow eye. :toast:

Sweet pose, Luke. I like that head turn and the head feathers fluffed up. Looks like you have detail, but the whites on the head and back are a tad hot on my monitor.

nice, Luke. the windblown head, good view of the eye, and nice look at the talons make up for the steep angle for me.

Wow! Stunning image of this handsome impressive looking character :^) We also have Ospreys out here, and although I've had a couple of opportunities to photograph them, I never seem to be abel to get the whites of their feathers are bright and clean as you have. Love the pose and eye contact; I guess the only way you could have improved that is if you'd happened to have had a ladder along with you ;^p

Gotta love ospreys. Looks like he has had quite a meal given the bulging of his crop. Shame about the steep angle.

Light's a bit harsh ans some of the whites look pretty bright to my eye, but excellent detail and a nice pose, Luke.

Luke, really like the pose, detail and the semi Groucho Marx hairdo. I'm always amazed by those talons. I'm ok with the angle but some of the whites do seem quite bright.
