Plum Island Dusk

An old one I just rediscovered from last spring. This was one of those nights that just come together. One of the first warm nights of the year - leave work at 5, drive madly toward the coast for an hour. Light starts to come together 15 minutes before I can smell the ocean. 15 minute dirt road drive as the light is fading. Hit the end of the road and huff down the trail toward the water a few minutes before the sun sets. Hang out alone by the ocean till deep dark. Always loved the ocean.

I really like the colour palette in this image Scott.
The transition from cyan/blue to red and grey is very pleasing. There seems to be some patches of cloud with an overly magenta "cast", not sure if this is what you saw naturally happening?

I think the water motion is nicely captured here.

One other nit would be the apparent halos on the distant mountain ridge - seems to resemble some shadow/highlights adjustments as well as some sharpening artefacting....

I love the color and light in the foreground and I think the comp is fine. I think it needs a touch more balance in the sky to the land and maybe if you did bracket your exposures, even a blend of one with a lighter sky. Still, a goregeous shot.

I like your description of getting this shot, Scott. I'm sure many, or most here can relate to that. This is a very pretty shot with pleasing colors and nice comp. Easy to see why you stayed until after dark. Must have felt good!

Very nice work. My only comment is that there is some halo in the top of the far mountain. It's noticeable with the large version

A good photo - nice work. I like how the color changes from blue to orange from left to right in this photo. I have noticed that any time the color in a photo goes from blue to red across the photo and follows the spectrum, I like it. Nice detail in the rocks in the foreground. I can see a little bit of halo in the background above the mountain and left of it but it is minor. Overall very nice!

Gorgeous light and sky Scott. I have never been to Plum Island and this just makes me want to go there. Only minor suggestion I have is to reduce the cyan cast on the water a little.
