I saw my first avocets of the season last week, and I'm looking forward to seeing more soon... here is one from last spring out near the Great Salt Lake.
7D @ 500mm
1/1250 f/6.3 iso400
Thanks for looking,
John

I'd love to have a opportunity to photograph Avocets or even Stilts one day. Beautiful shot John and, although it's a little hard to see in this small image, looks like you scored very well on sharpness and detail :^)

Breeding colors coming out on the avocets here too, and chicks coming soon.
Nice pose, detail, and colors. Spring is here!

Lovely shot John, the soft, muted colours of this species of Avocet have always appealed to me, the ones we get in the UK are just a uniform black and white. No nits from me.

Nice looking avocet. Very clean and I like that "tilted" look of the avocet.

A classic pose for the species. Good exposure and natural colors with good sharpness as well.

These are very photogenic birds, particularly when they are in their breeding plumage. I like tghe image you have posted here. The great pose and angle go well with your composition. The eye level view and the water reflection in its neck both add a lot to this image, I would like to see a larger version if its available. Congrats on getting this, John.

The techs look great, but I like the pose and how the up curve of the bill seems to carry motion forward.

"Classic" Avocet pose beautifully captured. The added ring in the water from where the bill had dipped in provides a very nice accent to the comp.
