Carunculated Caracara

On my last full day in Ecudador last spring I was offered the wonderful opportunity to visit the beautiful alpine landscape of Antisana. It was windy, rainy and very cold, but the variety of birds and wondrous scenery made up for the miserable conditions.

Canon 40D, 600mm & 1.4x, 1/500, f8, ISO 640

All your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Nice ! Glad you got up to Antisana - what a neat place!
Nice detail here, love the raindrops on him - seen well in the large version.
A little levels/brightness/contrast adjustment might bring out the nice eye more.

Like the setting Ken. Great detail considering the less than ideal conditions.

I love images taken in the rain, so this one already has a lot of appeal for me Ken, especially the way you've also managed to capture the raindrops that are apparently bouncing off the subject's back :^)

I think you've done an amazing job with this under the given circumstances; the exposure is great and feather detail is well defined to my eye. All round, a great image to look at :^)

Ken, this is one very cool looking bird! I like your choice of SS....it really helps show the rainy conditions. I do think you might be able to pull just a touch more detail out of the blacks without introducing any noise or changing the feeling of the scene, but opinion will of course vary from monitor to monitor brightness.

This is great, Ken. The rain bouncing off of the back really takes this over the top.. Nice detail in the larger post. Especially considering the shooting conditions.

Nice representation of the conditions-not just for the bird, but for you too. Beautiful colors and I like the rain.
