That early morning, the cub went to his father to greet him. Simba obliged him with this smile.
300mm @2.8, ISO 400. Slight crop from top.
Serengeti, Tanzania.

Whilst this captires what appears to be a "nasty" moment i am quite sure that it was just a friendly warning snarl.
Great moment, beautifully captured

I am amazed you haven't got any more comments on this fabulous image, Kiran! The expression on the male's face, and the "I'm sorry I disturbed your sleep, Dad!" expression on the cub's face are priceless! Probably the stink from dad's mouth is more 'put-offing' than the snarl itself

Kiran,
With that lens you must have been very close to these cats. What a wonderful picture of a father and cub. I thought male lions were not part of the raising of cubs but this photo shows otherwise.

Hi Kiran,
Perfect timing - right through to catching the cub's tail curl at just the right moment (not to mention, of course, catching the male's mouth so wide open). My biggest nit here is being deprived of the pleasure of seeing a larger version (meaning, of course, I can't find much else to complain about with this excellent image! ).
Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Nice one, Kiran. The profile of the adult and the upturned tail of the cub really make this image for me. Lovely light as well.

Beautiful capture, Kiran. Your choice of 2.8 did well in softening what could have been a troubling background. The lines of the youth's posture and the shape of the profile, open mouthed male make a pleasing composition with the key point of focal interest nicely set off by his shaded body. The sweet warm light is a nice component, too! Well done and thanks for sharing.

Excellent timing. Must've been a terrifying site for the cub, a reaction you so well captured here.

Wonderful timing to get this in such nice morning light. That is quite a smile to get you going in the morning. The interaction between the two and that big open mouth really draw you into the image, excellent shot, way to go.

Let's start: subject, framing, lights, pose and behavior are fantastic. What else? Oh yes, maybe the father is testing a new weapon against his cub: His deadly breath!!!

Cool image! I love the position of the cub, it looks like he is just about to run away. That snarl sure makes the lion look mean!
