Amongst the old and decrepit, new growth stems from a tiny crack in the granite to continue the cycle of life.

Girraween NP, Queensland.

D80, 18-200 VR lens at 56mm, f/16.

Thank you for any c&c.

I like your unique comp and B&W conversion David. I especially like the position of the old trees which seem to be celebrating in dance at the appearance of the new growth. Beautiful work.

I like the scene, Dave. Could see maybe adding a bit of contrast to heighten the textures even more.

There is something absolutely fascinating about this, David! It's like a surreal and mysterious black and white fairy tale. The angles of the trees, the distant rocks and soft focus on the background.. the curve of the tree leaning against the rock... the little shrub in the middle... I love it! Reminds me of Michael Gordon's work a bit (that's a good thing).

David, your image is telling us a story of steadyness and transience. Great realization in b&w!

Great shot, David. The compositional element are very strong and the vintage look adds a dramatic mood that I really dig.

Excellent composition and processing! This is wonderful as-is, but I can see at least a couple of more intimate compositions in the scene that I would have loved to explore further.

David, this is just lovely. The detail is beautiful and the placement of the plane of sharp focus is perfect. I agree with Floris that this does remind me of Michael Gordon's work. I think this will make a gorgeous print.

This is really well and carefully composed in how the different visual elements are placed. I especially like the way the two leaning trees are positioned and the relative to the trees in the background that leans the opposite way. The small plants are also well positioned in the frame. Really nicely done.

David,

I really, really like this! The key for me is the nature story that's being told - which you recognize and have crafted this so well to help tell that story. Like Guy mentioned, there are many sub-scenes that could be explored here, but this view works beautifully for me. The telling symbol for me is what appears to be a crack in the trunk of the main tree on the left. It really appears that the tree is "broken" the way trunk is not exactly straight and seems to veer after the point in the trunk that looks like a crack. Anyway, that's just one of the little elements that helps tell this nature story. I think the b&w is processed very well and I like the contrast as presented.
Excellent!
