Rocks and Rays

Taken in October 2007, another stormy sunrise on St. Ann's Bay, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. I am reworking some older images and don't remember if I posted this image here on NPN before or not.

Canon 20D
ISO100 0.5sec f/22
+2-Stop ND Gradient

Thanks for looking and for any comments and critiques.

Eva, I appreciate the textures in the foreground and the composition based on horizontal layers, each with its own character!

Hi Eva, I don't remember seeing this one before. I really like how the cloud edges are highlighted from the rising sun. The rays coming from the bottom of the cloud are nice too. I also like the texture in the foreground rocks. Enjoying the large version.

This has a very nice "in your face" feel to it. I get the feeling that the clouds and water are rushing toward me at high speed. I wasn't so sure about the extra blue sky up top, but when I tried to crop just a bit with my browser, it didn't seem to help. I'm sure you were debating the same thing while composing this shot.

Eva, this does a great job of capturing the sense of space that I feel when I'm at the shore. The foreground rocks are a treat for my eyes and are a strong change of pace from the rest of the scene, where all the textures are small.

Perfect processing, Eva. Could maybe crop some of the sky at the top, but that a very minor suggestion.

Very nice, Eva - the clouds emerging from the sun rays works very well.

Eva,

I really like the expansive view and the very near/far composition. The clouds certainly dominate here, but everything seems to have it's place including the sun's rays hitting the far horizon. Very pleasant colors as well.

Have you ever seen a clear blue sky in your neck of the woods before?

The rays do make this shot. The light, color, comp, and texture are all wonderful, but the rays put this over the top.

Wow, stunning scene with the light rays and reflected colors on the water, simple but elegant with all the right elements, way to go.
