Sunrise in Arichat, Nova Scotia. Arichat is in the southern portion of Cape Breton Island. I took this image in October 2008. Thanks for looking and for any comments and critiques.

Lovely colors and I like the general composition regarding position of the sun and the angular shoreline. I'm not big on horizons that split the center of the frame but due to the prominence of the boat in the foreground it works in this image. The boat is where the image runs off the tracks for me. But I'm a boat guy (aka boat snob) so take it for what it's worth. IMO for the boat to be this prominent in the image it needs to be something a little more intriguing than an aluminum skiff. Some sort of traditional wooden skiff, or a wreck, or something else unique about it. Something that indicates the location. Shy of that, I believe it would have been better to alocate more of the image to that beautiful sky.

Hey thanks Dan. I was kinda wishing it was a wooden boat myself but this is all there was. This is a working fishing village on Cape Breton Island, NS. Maybe next time I'll post my sister-in-law's Whitehall on Back River (a tidal river) in Boothbay, ME at sunset.

Nice moody shot, Eva! I like the colors and the sun just peakin' over the horizon! Couple things I would suggest: first, the horizon seems to have a bit of a CCW tilt; second, I would try to clone out the ropes on the front of the boat because they lead my eye out of the frame; and lastly, I think the left 1/3 of the shot is just a tad too dark. I would try to lighten it up a bit to even out the light.

Tilt corrected and shadows lightened. Thanks.

Hi Eva, I see lots of drama in this picture with the dark foreground and boat juxtapositioned against the sun peeping over the distant horizon. I do find myself want to change some items. I'd like to see the boat closer to the bottom and with a little more space between it and the left edge and I'd like to see the ULC and maybe the left 1/4 of the frame lightened. It looks like a beautiful morning to be out and about.

Eva, Besides being beautiful this picture has a lot of feeling in it to me. I just really like the calming feel I get looking at this. A wood boat would have been nice I'm sure, but this seems to work fine for me. It is a beautiful sunrise, and I do like the bit of reflection off the boat and rocks. I would have loved to be there for this sunrise! I'm just going to sit here and enjoy it for awhile. Beautiful.

A really beautiful image, Eva. Wonderful color! I echo Mark's comments regarding the comp. Makes me want to jump in the boat and go for a paddle!
