Long and winding wall...

Another favourite dry stone wall from the Yorkshire Dales - this was an image I'd planned the previous year but didn't manage to get quite the conditions I'd hoped for. Ideally I wanted a much harder frost and a few moody clouds. There was a light frost and not a cloud in the sky - but there was the first plane in the sky for a week (after the Icelandic ash cloud) and for once, I felt it added something to the image so chose to include it.
I'd waited around rather a long time for this in the freezing cold as the sun took a bit longer than I'd anticipated to hit the distant crags. The tripod was somewhat precariously set up on a stile (for crossing the wall) and I was lucky that some kind walker didn't make me move it when he appeared at 5.30am or whatever it was. Much appreciated as I'd spent ages adjusting tilt and shift on my then new 17TSE.
Hope to get this one with all desired conditions before too long but in the meantime, comments welcome of course!

I love stone walls like this one and I really like the line of the wall leads my eye to the sunlit hill. Very nice!

Beautiful light and color Lizzie. That wall seems to go on forever. We have a lot of stone walls here in New England, but none this continuous. BTW - Spectacular sharpness from front to back.

Terrific composition. The details in the wall are outstanding. The light on the far ridge is great and the contrail creates add a sense of the modern in contrast to the old wall.

Wonderful perspective and lighting on the far ridge, too bad about the airplane trail in the sky, well seen and well done.

A beautifully clean and clear image, Lizzie. I like your perspective perched on the wall, and the strong leading line moves me nicely towards the sunlit peak. Wonderful near-to-far sharpness from the Tilt/Shift lens, and I like the muted color and the subtle color combinations going on. I'm in two minds about the jet trail... it does create another angular line that works well the the wall line, but cloning it out might keep the focus on the mountain a bit more.
