Leaves on Stick

Another leathery leaves shot (oak leaves). This was shot last weekend, and it was a good thing I got out there because it burned again last week. I tried to get back out there to shoot afterburn shots but they had the road closed down due to fog and smoke both Saturday and Sunday morning for sunrise.

LARGER version available for better detail.

Bill: Wonderful find and a superb capture. I love the tones in the leaves and the subtle hues in the burned stick. This is a superior image IMO. >=))>

Bill are you sure you live in Florida and not some highend Italian leather shop. :jump:
Really like the contrast between the leaves and the burnt branch. Perfect detail. Are these burns controlled, or, wild brush fires???

Hi Bob - These are controlled burns. This property is part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Normally they burn it every three years (or so I thought), but they just burned this area last year.

Beautiful detail Bill! I like the arrangement of the leaves and texture of the burned log. I wonder if maybe dropping a leaf in that URC would have helped this some? My eye keeps wanting to jump to that corner.

Nice range of textures and colors Bill. I like the diagonal comp too.

What I really like is the patina on the leaves and wood. One could say you made this shine! Excellent diagonals in it as well. Well done!

Fine textures and interesting contrasts Bill. I initially thought that the upper right corner needed a leaf but the more I look at it the more I like the grey diagonals balanced throughout the image. My initial thought was that the leaves were the subject but I think it's both the leaves and those rich grey areas - as your title indicates. Beautiful image.
